Morningstar Investment Conference 2012 Preview

NOTE: I have assembled a Storify page on #MIC2012 here.

Within the investing world one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year is the Morningstar Investment Conference. This year, despite a strange market, will be no different.

Jeremy Grantham, GMO

Among an illustrious roster of outstanding speakers, the highlight of this year’s conference for me will be keynote speaker Jeremy Grantham, whose don’t-miss commentary I have yet to experience live. I carry his quarterly letters for weeks at a time. Few other asset managers say things like he does, as this example from his February newsletter shows: “Capitalism, by ignoring the finite nature of resources and by neglecting the long-term well-being of the planet and its potentially crucial biodiversity, threatens our existence.” This statement occurs in a much larger context (15 pages, to be exact) which oscillates between capitalist and humanist advice: emerging market forecasts, inflation hedges, the financial value of grandchildren, and Shakespeare’s character Polonius in Hamlet.

The agenda can be downloaded here. And the speakers will be…
