Three articles I wrote about the YMCA of Metro Chicago never saw the light of day for one reason or another.
Because I consumed the valuable time of several wonderful people in the interviews for these articles, I thought it appropriate that I publish them so that they can see what was written with the help and generosity of their remarks.
Two articles intended for an all-camping issue of Yes Magazine (issue #3), originally slated for early summer 2012:
Camp Courage is an extensive profile of YMCA of Metro Chicago camping, including stories and accounts of its specialty medical camps.
Team of advocates is a conversation with the YMCA of Metro Chicago Board of Directors’ most visible camping enthusiasts, Benno Friedrich, Art Catrambone and Harry Chandler, whose support has been instrumental in the success of YMCA camps in and around Chicagoland.
Finally, an article that was omitted from the 2010 Annual Report:
People caring for people is a profile of Neil Bosanko, community organizer, volunteer, and all-around good guy, who died before his YMCA article was to have appeared (although it never did).
My profound thanks to all of the people I met and spoke with in the preparation of these articles. — Michael Vitali
